dr. Bas Haring (1968) is hoofddocent Mediatechnologie aan Universiteit Leiden, onderzoeker aan het Institute of Advanced Computer Science en schrijft. Hij promoveerde in 1997 in de Kunstmatige Intelligentie en houdt zich bezig met de relatie tussen de natuurwetenschap en filosofische vraagstukken. Zijn debuut "Kaas en de Evolutietheorie" won in 2002 de Gouden Uil voor jeugdliteratuur en de Eureka! prijs voor populair wetenschappelijke literatuur. In oktober 2003 is "De IJzeren Wil" uitgekomen - over het brein, bewustzijn en denkende machines. Op dit moment werkt hij aan een derde boek met als werktitel "Voor echt succesvol leven"; over de hypothese dat - vaker dan ons lief is - onze denkbeelden ons hebben, in plaats van andersom. Bovendien presenteert hij het populair filosofische televisieprogramma Stof van de RVU waarvan in 2005 twaalf nieuwe afleveringen verschijnen.
dr. Bas Haring (1968) is teaching Media technology at the University of Leiden, he is a researcher at the Institute of Advanced Computer Science and a writer. He got his Ph.D in Artificial Intelligence in 1997 and is focussing on the relation of science and philosphical problems. His first book 'Cheese and the theory of evolution' won the Golden Owl award (2002) for youth literature and the Eureka! award for popular scientific literature. In October 2003 "The Iron Will' was published - about the brain, consiousness and thinking machines. Currently he is working on a third book titled "For truly succesful living'; about the hypotheses that - more often than we like - our conception own us, in stead of the other way around. He is also host of the popular philosophical television show Stof (RVU), of which twelve new episodes wil be broadcasted in 2005. He will lecture on October 8th.
